How to Import Rare Plants from Indonesia to the USA

Buying rare plants directly from Indonesia gives US collectors access to species and variegated forms that are hard to find locally. Here is what you need to know.
1. Phytosanitary certificate
Every plant we export is inspected by Indonesian plant quarantine and travels with an official phytosanitary certificate. This is required for plants entering the United States.
2. Do you need a USDA import permit?
Depending on the plant species and the number of plants, USDA APHIS may require a PPQ 587 permit (Plants for Planting). Many hobby buyers apply for one online — it is free. If you have a permit, add the number in your checkout notes and we will prepare the documents accordingly.
3. Bare-root shipping
US rules do not allow soil. Plants are cleaned, roots are wrapped in moisture-retaining media, and each plant is labelled.
4. Delivery time
After payment we need around 5–10 business days for preparation and inspection. Express transit usually takes 3–7 business days.
5. Unboxing & acclimatisation
- Open the parcel immediately and check each plant
- Pot in a slightly moist, airy mix
- Keep humidity high and avoid direct sun for 1–2 weeks
