Hoya Care Guide: Light, Water & Getting Your Hoya to Bloom

Hoyas are rewarding, long-lived houseplants. Follow these basics and your plant will thrive.
Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal. A little gentle morning sun encourages blooming and brings out pink tones in variegated forms.
Potting mix
Use a chunky, fast-draining mix: orchid bark, perlite and coco chips with a little potting soil. Hoyas hate soggy roots.
Watering
Water thoroughly, then let the mix dry partially. Thick-leaved Hoyas (like H. kerrii) can go longer between waterings.
Humidity
Most Hoyas adapt to normal household humidity, but thin-leaved species appreciate 60%+.

- Give it more light
- Let it get slightly root-bound
- Never cut off the peduncles — Hoyas re-flower from the same spurs
