Hoya latifolia 'Jabar' Inner Variegated

'Jabar' is short for Jawa Barat (West Java), where this inner-variegated Hoya latifolia comes from. The leaves have a wide creamy-yellow centre with a green border, carried on reddish stems, and new growth can flush with pink. It combines the big-leaf drama of latifolia with bright variegation.

Care

• Light: bright, indirect light; latifolia types colour up and hold their silver best with plenty of light
• Water: water thoroughly, then let the mix dry about halfway — the large, thick leaves store water
• Mix: very chunky and airy: orchid bark, perlite and coco chips
• Support: a sturdy hanging pot or trellis; give the long vines room to grow

After unboxing

Pot up in a slightly moist, airy mix and keep the plant in bright shade with high humidity for 1–2 weeks while new roots form.
